HAMILTON IMPROVEMENTS.
ELECTRIC POWER QUESTION.
REPORT BY ENGINEER. [BT TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. A comprehensive report upon (1) a reticulation scheme; (2) the installation of pumps; and (3) a steam stand-by electrical plant was submitted to the Hamilton Borough Council to-night by the borough electrical engineer, Mr, G. T. Wilson. In his report Mr. Wilson said the Government sub-station from Horahora would probably adjoin the borough sub-station, and the Public Works Department would contribute towards the ixjst of a borough employee to look after the Government apparatus. This would bo an excellent arrangement, as the borough engineer would be in direct communication with Horahora. The cost of an auxiliary steam generating station to work in conjunction with the hydro-elec-trie supply would be £16,800 if erected while the other reticulation works were going on, or £18,000 if erected later on. The extra cost was to provide two substations and alterations, but no substation or pump-house would be required if the whole scheme was msW«d at once The cost of installing two turbine pumps would be £1800, and the cost of Lnroving the intake for the pomps would be £1650. Extra mains would cost £1460. The engineer estimated the cost of reticulation and operating £« for electric transmission only at £16,621, making the total cost for the whole of the undertaking £38,331. , ' , After discussion it was decided, to refer, tie report to a. consulting engineer.
