MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.
The Mount Roskill Road Board neb on Tuesday evening. Present : Messrs. G. "E. Taxuley, chairman, S. Scarborough, H. Luke, J. J. Preston, E. A. Pearce, J. Peet and E. J. Herd. The question of a drainage scheme for the eastern portion of Mount Roskill was again discussed. It was decided to incite applications for the position of drainage engineer. In order to alter the alignment of Mount Albert Road from Hillsborough Road to the boundary of the Costley Home property, it was decided to purchase the corner of a section of land from Mr. J. Douglas for £40. The ratab'.e value of the district is 2803,730, and the clerk seated thai this would produce £4123 10s 5d in general rates.
The chairman and Mr. H. Luke agreed to represent the board at a conference to be held at Mount Eden on Friday evening on the question of electrical energy and the increased cost of street lighting. Tenders were received for forming and metalling May Road, this being the first part of the board's new reading scheme, as follows:— Bray and Co., £2277 12s; "Municipal Supply Company, £1942 2s 9d. The tenders were referred* to Mr. Lockie Gannon, engineer to the board, and Messrs. Tansley and Preston. Permits were issued for the erection of three new buildings at a total cost of £2600.
The Onehnnga Borough Council informed the board that it cculd not participate in any permanent improvements to the portion of Mount Albert Road under the joint control of the two bodies. It was decided to urge the postal authorities to instai a slot telephone at Greenwood's Corner and at the Royal Oak.
