NOTES ON THE RACING. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday. For the Hack Hurdles, the public selected Yankee Jack, Rio, Jind Master Boris, in thai order. The latter made most or the running from the top weight, hut funny jumping at the last two tences spout his chances, and he was beaten into fourth pi'-ice. i Yankee Jack took charge at the last tence and won ail out by a heud trom Combustion. For the Bellevue Hack, the public selected Egmont Park, Nursing Sister, and Tempo, and. the trio tilled the places. Nursing Sister led till the last few yards, where the favourite headed her and won by a uecn. Tempo was ciose up and then came Beloved. Stetson and Onipoto were the only ones backed in the Hack Steepies. De«side tell at the doubie in front of the stand and brought down Stetson. Nefische and Aurike were rim off. Onipoio then hud a good lead, but with a mile to go his rider went insido a post and had to pull off. Pataoriki then won easily from Ar;o and Mac. The Speaker and Oir.ahu were the favourites tor the Marion Handicap. The Speaker got out well, but was soon steadied, and Penury Rose and Zola led Omahu and The Speaker to the half-mile. Entering the straight, Omahu was clear of the field, and he won nicety from Penury Rose and Zola. All but Cornelian and Sensitive were wellbacked for the Victory Steeples. Cornelian ran off at the first fence, and Want, and Sensitive fell at the next. First Line, jumping well, led Mattock till half-a-mile from home, when the last-named went to the front, and won by 50 yards from First Line, with Kurapai tome distance away, and Master Webster beaten. The winner ran inside a post at the bottom of the straight, but as it was in the last round the judges' verdict was not altered. Lorigan, the ridel of Want, had his collarbone broken. In ths Railway Handicap all the runners were well supported- Sweet Corn and Ermine led into the straight, where Kipling came from behind, but though he settled Ermine, he could not res-ch Sweet Corn, who won nicely. Ahika, who got left several lengths, finished very fast in fourth place. Sail Home and Silenns were the most fancied in the Bracelet, but an outsider, in Khartoum, accounted for the pair at the

finish. Martinello and Metal!um were in front to the half-mile, where the favourite ran to the front, but in the straight he was challenged by Khartoum, and the latter won easily in the run home. Silenus was a poor third. Sir Fanciful was at a very short price in the Hack Welter, but the weight and the going beat him- Entering the straight Hautawa hung out, and carried Utnwai off the course, but the latter was straightened up, and beat the favourite in the run homeCoral Queen was close up.
