Mr. J. A. Young, member for Waikato, who has been in ill-health lor some little time, made his first appearance in Parliament this session yesterday.

Mr. V. Casey, who intends to residi in Sydney, returned to Auckland on « business visit by the Niagara. He is at the Royal Hotel. 6

The Rev. J. A. Luxford, C.M.G., Chap, Han to the Forces, who arrived in Wellington on Tuesday by the troopship Athenic, returned to Auckland yesterday. H e is at Stonehurst.

Mr. J. Woodall has been appointed deputy-Mayor of Devon port to art. durincr the absence of the Mayor, Mr. H. 6. yf. King, at the annua! conference of. the Municipal Association. The conference opens at Wellington on Wednesday next, and Mr. King intends to leave for Wei' lington next Tuesday evening.

The Rev. Stephen Parr, M.C., has been appointed chaplain at Christ's College, Christchurch. Mr. Parr enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as a private, and was promoted to a chaplaincy and awarded the Military Croat on the field.

The Hon. R. Hcaton Rhodes, M.P., who has been engaged for some time in England on work in connection with Red Cross funds, is expected to return to New Zealand by the Corinthic, which is due at Wellington on September 22. Sir Walter Buchanan, M.L.C., is returting by the same steamer.

Mr. H. Gregory has arrived in Auckland to take charge of the physical department of the Auckland Y. M.C.A. For some years Mr. Gregory held important positions in the American Y.M.C.A.'* after which he was physi;al director at the Y.M.C.A. at Petrograd, Russia. Three years ago he returned to New Zealand to enlist, and recently arrived home from active service.
