RESTRICTION OF RENT.

QUESTION OF CONTINUATION. [li* TELEGRAPH.— REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. A question relating to the rent restriction legislation was asked in the House of %presentatives to-day by Mr. G. Witty (Riccarton). He asked the Prime Minister whether; he intended to extend the operation of the legislation. If it were not done, he said a great hardship would be imposed on many tenants, some of whom had already been notified that unless the law was extended they would have to submit to having their rents raised, or to quit. The Prime Minister replied that he proposed to take this matter into consideration. He knew that some amendment of the law was necessary, but the position was that the provision about which the hon. member had asked was a permanent enactment.
