LIQUOR IN MAORI VILLAGE.
SEVERAL NATIVES FINED. [BY telegraph.OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Fine* varying from £2 to £5- were imposed on several natives bv Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., at the Police " Court Yesterday for taking liquor to Maori kaingas for consumption. The defendants pleaded that they were full of joy because peace had been declared and wanted to celebrate it Ihe magistrate made some allowance for the occasion, ar.d sternly warned them that the maximum fines would be inflicted should they be convicted again
