iNCREASE IN SALARIES.

RESOLUTION AT CONFERENCE [BT TELEGB.ATH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The conference of the Secondary Schools Assistants' Association carried a resolution Brging that as teaohers are obliged to undergo a. long and expensive course of training the salaries should be further materially increased and brought into line with those of higher officers in the Public Service and the more lucrative professions. After a considerable discussion the following resolution was carried : —"That in any scale of salaries drawn up for secondary assistants the pay of men and women should be equal for equal work or for equal qualifications, whichever may be the basis for such scale, but that married assistants | should receive, in addition to their salaj ries, an adequate allowance in proportion to itbe number of their dependants. For the purposes of this clause the allowance for married teachers shall be the same as laid down in the regulation for the primary schools in the Education Act oi 1914."" The conference reaffirmed th« resolutions passed by the Council of Edu cation regarding the payment Qf super annuation as computed on the three besl years of service, and also in respect of th( payment for work done outside schoo hours. It was resolved that an endeavour shonk be made by the association to include thi ordinary university course of four year for 8.A..
