GERMAN POTASH MANURES.
AVAILABLE FOR DOMINION.
LOCAL MERCHANTS' ATTITUDE.
The Department of Agriculture has advised local, merchants that German potash manures will soon bo available for
export to New Zealand, according to information just received from the British Government. It is not yet kno'/n whether the manures will be uulphates, muriates or kaihit, but importers are invited to specify their probable requirements. Referring to the matter yesterday, a local merchant said the proposal is meeting with a mixed reception here. The offer has come at the very time when Alsatian potashes are also being quoted, and in view of a desire to cultivate closer trade relations with our French allies, for which the Alsatian proposal offers a favourable opportunity, some Auckland importers openly state that they are not prepared to do business with the nation which for five years we have regarded with horror and loathing as out deadliest and most implacable foe.
