ZEPPELINS DESTROYED.
UNCONFIRMED REPORTS. WORK OF MALCONTENTS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 1. No confirmation of the reported destruction of German Zeppelins has reached London, but the correspondent of the Daily Express in Berlin states that a report is current that a naval officer, who has since disappeared, ordered the cutting of the suspensory cables, causing the airships to crash to the ground within their sheds.
The German Foreign Office isignorant of the details of this reported action, and declares that it has no complicity. If the destruction actually occurred, it was possibly done by malcontents in order to embarrass the Government with the Entente Powers. The number of ail-ships alleged to have been destroyed is variously stated as ten and twelve.
Under the terms of the Versailles Treaty all aeroplanes and airships in the possession of Germany must be surrendered to the Allies.
