The rainfall in Auckland during August,

as registered at the Albert Park Observatory by the official observer, Mr. F. A. F. Burnett, amounted to exactly 3.oin. Rain fell on 19 days, the highest fall for any one day being 1.06 in. registered for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on August 29. The average fall for August for the past 66 years is 4.13 in. Last August the total was 3.52 in. The highest fall registered in Auckland during the month of August was 10.56 in, recorded in 1870, while the lowest was 1.16 in in August, 1914. Last month the greater portion of j the rain fell in the last two days, the total fall up to August 28 being only .92in. The total fall for the eight months of the present year is 22.28 in, as compared with 38.91 in for the corresponding period last year and 59.?5in for the first eight months of 1917.
