NOTES AND COMMENTS.
One of tho finest and most spectacular of representative hockey games yet seen in Wellington was played on Monday aftern<on Ivjtweon a team comprising the officers o» the battle-cruiser New Zealand and a Wellington representative eleven. It was a. tap and open contest, And the New Zealand a team succeeded in defeating tho local team by 8 goats to 3. Th« game was not, as tee score suggests, a runaway victory for t£a. visitors, for both teams were evenly matched and displayed a k«*n and thorough knowledge of hookey. The visitors proved superior in combination, th«'r forwards woilrrg harmoniously throughout, displaying good stick and foe* work. Midshipman CawraUs. in goal, gave a fine exhibition. LieutenantCommander Spooner, D.5.0., rearguard, and Lieutenants Cunliffo {captain), Chevalier, McMaster, and Russell also played, well. Wellington put its strongest team in the fi*id. and plaved a splendid game, but was outclassed in tho matter of attack and defence. In the first spell tho visitors through Lientenant McMssler drew fiist blood. At halftime, tho scores wire: New- Zealand, 4.; Wellington, 3- After half-time four additional ffor-Ja were netted, the sccrars for the match being, for the New Inland. Lieutenant McMasters '2 goals). Lieutenant Cornwallis, and Lieutenant Chevalier (5) • while for Wellington Champrnoas (3) and Straiten registered.
