PLENTY OF ROOM.
Sir, Having read so much lately about no homes to be had in the city, I would suggest that more people ■ live in the country. There are over half a million >ci;es here almost uninhabited in the heart of the North Island, and it is the healthiest place that any of us have lived in.; The children have not had any epidemic these three years and none of- us had influenza. If the Government or someone with brains and money would start sonie > manufacturing here instead of sending' all the raw material into the city, the people could have their own houses in ; a short time,, vegetable gardens and orchards, mails and papers, five days a. week.' But they must have work provided' if they are not farmers as they'cannot'live on the air alone. Tokosoa. . ' THE CHIMES. Sir,—One 'pauses before' answering- a letter in; the Herald of .August. 26 over the name of H. Hemusto consider whether it is worth while. The gist of it appears to be that H. Hemus objects to the playing of the chimes. If he is unmusical pr does not like music, is that any reason why the' ringing of the chimes should be —music which is, enjoyed 'by many people wQerever the bells can- be. heard. No one can truthfully say that the playing- of the chimes is not beautiful. With regard to Hecuba, I know nothing; about her which connects her -with anything your correspondent says .in. his letter. - If H. Hemus wrote a letter ~using nice big words (he seems fond of flowery language) praising the bejlringers -and- their- playing it would make much more pleasant reading than the one he wrote. Bio. Ben.
