MANUKAU ROAD.
| ' Sir,-r-The . City Council is having .■ a ;c]eaning-np week. Well and good: but j>hy does the council not do something to j.reduce the -dust and filth of Manukau Road? from Newmarket outwards. The [ condition of this street, is ' the worst in Auckland. It is a positive disgrace *to ' the council. The dust is'rising and blow- • ing about in thick clouds day in and day (Out', smothering - shops, dwellings, and i .everything. The tramcars are simply fi'thy before they reach-Newmarket from the barn. About a year ago the council condescended to: have the. street watered once "or twice a day, and it was a blessing all round. Why cannot the council workmen -prater -the. street now like they do some of the favoured streets of the city ? Newmarket Borough Council looks after its streets very well. Of course, lam aware •. Manukau . Road is going to be paved . some, day,. but are we all. to be smothered and our property ruined before that time ? Shopkeeper.
