NEW STEAMERS BUILDING. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Aug 29. Good progress has been made in laying the keel of the first steamers building for the Commonwealth of Australia at Barrow. T' ?. first rivets were driven in the ' -\ plates on Tuesday. The keel o' ae first of two ships placed with tieardmores will be laid in September.

The High Commissioner has been informed with respect to the Commonwealth Government cargo shipped by Conference lines that a rebate will be paid by these lines provided he declares that no shipment was made by outside steamers other than those belonging to the Commonwealth Government!,
