NEW ZEALAND GOODS.
INTERNAL PREJUDICES. PLEA FOR CHANCED VIEW. Referring to the prejudice in New Zealand against New Zealand goods mentioned in the report if the Parliamentary Industrie* Committee, the. president of the Auckland Industrial Association. Mr. Frank M. Hills, stated on Saturday that it must be admitted it was still prevalent, but not to the same extent as before the war. In the case of old residents, they were suffering from the faults of eonie of the New Zealand manufacturers of 25 veal's ago. Some were unscrupulous, others woefully ignorant of their husimss. This state of manufacturing was a'l changed now. bui this was only gradually being recognised. New residents took rather lons in being persuaded that their new little country could make man* things as v.ell as. and better than, the older States.
Industrialists strongly and emphatically j emphasised that they did not ask public ' support if their manufactures were not in every way equal to. or better than, the imnorted, or were not sold at the same. i.v lower, price.*. They did not bee for favours, but only asked the public to Miruiort the country that was supporting them. Mr. A i-l. Entririrh said lie. was sure this prejudice was wealing away, and that to-day it was a negligible quantity. Dunns the war New Zealand was nearly entirely dependent on local supplies, and this has proved of great advantage to the local manufacturers.
