MR. FISHER HECKLED.
«s» QUESTIONED WAR SERVICE. BY-ELECTION INCIDENTS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 27. Mr. Arthur Henderson has rejected Mr. F. M. B. Fisher's challenge to a public debate on his statements regarding his mission to Russia. Mr. Henderson says :"I will not waste my time over a man who calls me a liar and a Bolshevik, and then asks me to prove my statements." Mr. Fisher was severely heckled at a meeting. He was asked what he did in the great war. He replied that he gave up a Ministerial position in New Zealand, and came to England. An interrupter ejaculated : But not on thirteen pence a day." Mr. Fisher said that owing to there being a surplus of officers he could not secure a commission. Earl Kitchener advised him to serve the country in an administrative capacity. He had been working in' the propaganda department during the war.
