AUSTRALIAN CONFERENCE. NO DEFINITE PROPOSALS. Anstraliaa and N.Z. Cable Association(Reed. 6 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 27. The Agents-General of the Australian States have requested Mr. J. Y. Braddon, Commonwealth Trade Commissioner, to formulate emigration proposals to the Commonwealth before the opening of the conference of representatives of the States on Friday. Mr. Braddon has replied that he had not any very definite proposals. It is anticipated that the conference will achieve no results. Victoria will not be represented owing to the absence of the Agent-General, Sir Peter Mcßride, in Bristol. j INQUIRIES IN BRITAIN. PROSPECTIVE FRUIT FARMERS j A, and N.Z. LONDON. Aug. 27. , The Overseas Settlement Department, established by the Imperial Government with a view to directing emigration of service men to the Dominions rather than to foreign countries, has already received about 1200 applications. About 75 per cent, desire to go to Canada and the balance to Australia and New Zealand. Many of the latter have made inquiries with regard to facilities for fruitgrowing. The applicants for Australia and New Zealand were referred to the respective agencies, owing to the fact that no arrangements are yet possible for sending them overseas until the Dominions are ready to receive them.
