MISHAP TO A TRAIN.
ENGINE BREAKS DOWN. DRIVING WHEELS DAMAGED, [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGAS-UI. Thursday. , The first through express train from New Plymouth since the restrictions were imposed met with an accident at Jformanby where the gudgeon pins broke on one of the main driving-wheels, with the * result that the Westinghouse brake became disconnected and the train palled up. Some of the driving rods and piston rods were scattered alorg the line, and others became tangled in the wheels of the engine. Fortunately the mail motor-car was passing along at the time, the accident occur. '■ ring near a level crossing, and the driver - and the firemen were taken into Hawera, where they secured another engine and a relief crew. On their return they set to work to teroporarily repair the damage, and the engine and train were hauled to Hawera, the engine being left there for overhaul. The train then proceeded on its way, and reached Wanganui one hour and a- . : : quarter late.
