Massey, , gave notice of the Women's Parliamentary Rights Extension Bill; Mr. J. V. Brown (Napier) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister if he proposed to introduce some system of proportional representation or some other substitute for , the second ballot. Replying to Mr. G. Witty (Riocarton) I the Hon. D. H, Guthrie said there '■ was ample provision either to remit a year's rent or capitalise the same in cases where land is settled by soldiers too late to get the year's crop in. This is now being done j in many cases where land is sstyied at i what may be called the wrong season of ' the year, each case being considered on ' its merits. Mr. J. A. Nash (Palmerston) gave notice that on the next Bitting day he would move that a respectful address be presented to# the Governor-General in reply to His Excellency's Speech from the Throne. Fourteen days' leave of absence was granted to the Hon. R. H. Rhodes (Ellesmere) and "six days to Mr. J. A. Young (Waikato). e Mr. Massey moved formally the first' reading of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, which was agreed to on the voices. The House rose till 2.30 to-morrow. In the Legislative Council to-day, after the speech of His Excellency the Governor-General, the Hon. J. B. Gow (Opotiki) gave notice of his intention to move the Address-in-Reply. Sir Francis Bell gave" notice that he would ask for leave to introduce the Mortgages Extension Pill, the Public Authorities (patty walls) Empowering" Bill, the Official Documents and Appointments Bill and the Chattels Transfer Amendment Bill. A .message from His "Excellency the Governor-General stated that he" had granted leave of absence for the session to Sir Walter Buchanan (Carterton), Colonel W. E. Collins (Wellington), the Hon. W. H. Triggs tOhristchureh), and : the Hon. C. H. Izard (Wellington). The Council adjourned until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
