THE ARAPAWA REFLOATED

TOWED OFF WAITARA BAR. DUE AT ONEHUNGA TO-DAY. The Northern Company's steamer Arapawa, which had been ashore at Waitara for 22 days, was floated off at 9.45 p.m. on Monday. She was towed to New Plymouth by the Rimu and remained there for the night. The two vessels left yesterday morning for Onehunga, where they are due at 9 a.m. to-day. The Arapawa stranded on the Waitara Bar when leaving that port on the afternoon of Sunday, August 3. An attempt was made next morning to warp her off the sandbank, but the line parted, and owing to the steamer being unable to use her propeller she drifted on to the beach on the north side of the training walls. Several attempts to refloat her were unsuccessful owing to the tides being unsuitable. As far as is known the only damage she sustained is a broken rudder and stern-post.
