AUSTRALIAN WHEAT.

HEAVY SLUMP IN SCRIP ESTIMATED AT £1,300,000. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Heed. 7.30 pjn.) SYDNEY. Aug. 22. The wheat question is creating much criticism in both the New South Wales and Federal Parliaments. In the Naw South Wales Legislative Assembly the Minister for Agriculture put up a strong defence over matters arising out of the recent commission of inquiry into the Georgeson contract and the sub sequent comments thereon. In the Federal House of Representatives adverse comments on the operations of the wheat pool and its alleged wasteful methods led to the production of much official matter to prove that the pool acted in the interests of the farmers and made the best of a position rendered very difficult by war conditions, also to show that Mr. Pratten's estimated loss of 30,000,000 bushels was largely over-estimated. Mr. Pratten's statement resulted in a heavy slump m wheat scrip, estimated at £1,500,000.
