" '?*; Mr. J. H. Hammond, manager of the •? Bank of New Zealand at New Plymouth, has been promoted to Hamilton in succes' sion to the late Mr. K. S. Biookfiekl. Professor G. Owen has resigned the chair of physics at the Auckland University College. The resignation was accepted with regret by the College Council . yesterday. Professor Owen has received an appointment at Aberystwyth University, Wales. Dr. R. H. Makgill. Acting-Chief Health Officer, intends to leave for Wellington this morning, via Cambridge and Rotorua. During the time he is relieving the Chief Health! Officer, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine. while the latter is absent on leave, he will spend a portion of his time in Wellington, reserving the other portion for his duties as District Health Officer for Auckland.
