LORD JELLICOE'S VISIT.

ENTERTAINMENT PLANS. PROGRAMME TAKING SHAPE. The Citizens' Committee which has in hand the arrangements for the reception and entertainment of Admiral Lord Jellicoe and the officers and men of H.M.S. New Zealand, is actively engaged in its preparations. According to the latest information received the warship will arrive in Wellington to-morrow, and in Auckland on September 19. The visit to this city will extend over three weeks. In his capacity as Deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. J. Entrican is president, ex officio, of the Citizens' Committee. The chairman is Mr. A. M. Ferguson; the hon. treasurer, Mr. W. J. Thomson; and the hon. secretary, Mr. H. C. Tewsley, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. A number of sub-com-mittees have been set up. These comprise executive, programme, finance, advertising, entertainment, and sports committees. All are actively at work. The programme for the period of the visit has not yet been completed, but several functions have been decided upon. These include a point-to-point steeplechase under the auspices of the Paknranga Hunt Club; two or three football contests; a boxing tournament; and two smoke concerts. An afternoon trip to Takapona for the unveiling in that suburb by Lord Jellicoe of a memorial to the late Lieuj tear nt-Commander E., W. Sanders, V.C., |is b' ing arranged. There will be a gatherI ing at Onehunga on the occasion of the presentation to the admiral of a souvenir in the form of a piece bf the timber from the Orpheus, wrecked on the Manukaui Bar in 18bi. A garden party at Bishopscourt, and a Victoria League "At Home," are also likely to be given in honour of the visitors. The Auckland branch of the Navy League intends to entertain the men of the New Zealand in different parties throughout the three weeks of the visit. The funds in the hands of the Citizens' Committee at present amount to just over £500, but at least £2000 will be required to adequately meet the situation and ensure the entertainment offered being worthy of the guests and the historic occasion their coming will mark. A general meeting of the committee is to be held this afternoon at the Chamber of Comm ':i-;e, when several important matters will come under consideration. ! HEW ZEALAND SAILS.
