Brown, a sitting : member and candidate for re-efectfoja, undertook, at tea request; of his fellow-councillors, ; certain works about, the borough. A notice has now been served upon the-town clerk by a committee of burgesses, through I 5 their solicitor. This alleges that Mr. j | Brown for services. , rendered, received : a f greater sum than, that provided for by the j {Municipal Corporations Act, which fixes I ™ maximum payment to councillors at £10 in any one year, and that he was! consequently disqualified from seeking re-! election. -It calls upon the town ole3t to no.d an election to fill the vacancy op the council, The position - will be discussed ait the monthly meeting of the council next Thursday evening.
