101 YEARS OF AGE.
MRS. D. B. WILLIAMS. SETTLER AT MULLET FOIST* 64 YEARS' RESIDENCE. One of Auckland's early settlers,- Mrs. Damans Brickwood Williams, celebrated her 101 st birthday at her residence, Mullet Point, off Kawan Island, on Thursday last. Many friends and relatives attended the function, and Mrs. Williams, received many letters and telegrams of congratcda- ; tion from all parts of the Dominion. Mrs. Williams, whose maiden name was Millar, was born at St. Germains, Cornwall, on July 10, 1818, and sailed from England, accompanied by her uncle and aunt, in the ship Victoria, in June, 1849. The following year the party landed at the Cornish settlement in New Sojth Wales. Five years later Miss Millar was married to Mr. Zachariah Williams, a resident of the settlement. Mr. and Mrs. Williams shortly afterwards left for New Zealand, arriving by -Jia chip William Denny in February," 1855. Four months later the Williams took up land at Mullet Point. The first night they landed at a point now known as Snell's Beach, and having i»o shelter, they slept under the trees en the beach. Mrs, Williams assisted her husband with the building of the house, and until his death, about 30 years ago, was accustomed to accompany aim on all hie duties about ths farm. Even at 80 years of age she dug and prepared a strawberry bed and ! tended the growing plants until the fruit ripened. j Mrs. Williams takes an intelligent interest in cr-rent affairs, and spends a great deal of her time knitting and reading. Although she does the finest work she rarely needs to resort to the use of spectacles. Each morning she rises at daybreak, and in the evening retires at dusk. She is very active, and is able to walk from room '.o room with ease. One of her proudest ooasts is that for 50 years she has not tasted tea. Mrs. Williams has one son, who resides in Australia, and she is now living with her adopted daughter, Mrs. E. Lawson.
