DEPARTMENT'S OFFICERS. INCREASES SANCTIONEI. SURVEYS TO BE UNDERTAKEN. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWTT CORRESPONDENT.] • WELLINGTON. Friday. The Cabinet has agreed to the recommendation of the .Minister for Mines, the Hon. W. D S. Mac Donald, to invite applications for the appointment of additional officers for the Mines Department. These will include a geological expert, palaeontologist, and assistants. It is hoped the appointments will bring the geological staff up to the necessary strength. There have been many applications by districts for geological surveys and soil surveys for a considerable time, and it is hoped that now, in conjunction with She Agricultural Department, these necessary surveys will be put in hand.
