There were also present:— E. Burns, E. C. Browne, J. H. Upton;. T. Peacock, H. W. Hudson, A. G. Graham, M. M. Louisson, A. A. Martiri;-R. •L. Stewart, and J. H. Jackson Merchants having complained of delays in the -handling of goods on the wharves, the suggestion w.\s made 'that the Harbour Board should supply light portable , cranes, or receive cargo, as war done in \ Wellington. The president stated that the board had been approached, and had declined to take any part, as receivers, in j the handling of goods on the wharves, ■ ! where, it had pointed out, the necessiry '■ \) shed accommodation way provided.'-' ."No* action was taken. . :-:ni -*.-• „ -"i Referring to complaints*, regarding ship- ",, ? j ping delays at Gisborne, the local manager of the Union Company wroter: stating* that I the cause was heavy congestion at that port, and the demand on lighters.
