CONSTABLE ELUDED. [by telegraph:.—own correspondent.] WANSANUI, Monday Michael McCanr., who escaped from custody at Pokako, on tho Main Trunk lino, was reported to the police on Saturday to be making for the Wanganui district, and Constable McGowan, of Raetihi, followed tho escapee to Kakatahi. Constable McMullan left Wanganui on Saturday evening •to attempt to intercept the escapee south of Kakatahi., but in tho meantimo McCann had changed bis direction and had gono towards Mangaraahu. Yesterday he doubled back to Kakatahi and it was reported this morning that ho was seen further inland towards the Main Trunk line.
