PICTURE THEATRE HOURS.
Sir,—The Hon. ('• vV. Russell's statement that " when theatres close at ten o'clock at night and open at ten the following morning," etc., is. incorrect. It is the performance that closes at ten, not he theatre. After the performance tho cleaning commences. The theatre opens at si:: the following morning, when the cleaning process is resumed, until a few minutes Vfore eleven. The ventilation and cleaning takes up some thirteen hours out of the twenty-four. A picture theatre must of necessity be kept cleaner than most buildings: it is part of its stock-in-trade. Picture theatres did not bring about the epidemic, and it is grossly unfair that a world-wide entertainment industry, that gives pleasure, convenience, education, and employment to millions of people, should be so victimised.
