CLEANERS AND LIFTMEN.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT.
DEMANDS BY NEW UNION.
A new union has been formed in the city, comprising cleaners, caretakers, and liftmen, and demands covering wages and other conditions of employment have been eerved upon the various employers. The latter have been asked to notify the union on or before Thursday whether the claims are acceptable. The weekly wages asked for are: Window-cleaners and «£?"££ £4 10s; ordinary cleaners. £4; liftmen M 15s; caretakers of buildings up to and Eluding 30 rooms, £4 ss; caretakers of Sidings over 30 rooms. £4 15s; women cleaners, £2 15s. For caretakers of buildiH2S of less than 30 room who are leSd to work lifts £5 5s is asked, while ff the ease of caretakers o buildings over 30 rooms it is demanded that they shall not be permitted to work lift*. Kleoav is sought for overtime, on a 44 hour week for men, and a 40-hour week tor women For casual workers the wages Sr hour asked are: Window-cleaners and hie washers, 2s 3d; ordinary cleaners, ?«• women Is 6d. The demands also conSinTre's covering holidays provisions in case of accidents, termination of engagemsnte, and preference.
