MANUFACTURE OF BLANKETS
POSITION IN DOMINION.
Exportation of blankets to Britain from the Dominion has been going on for some time past, but only on a small scale. There is no actual export trade proceedbig, but individuals, are from time to time sending Home to friends one or two blankets, owing to the impossibility of obtaining any there. I n much tho same way people in' this country have been forwarding tea, butter, and sugar, and even a frozen lamb or Wo, to friends in the Old Country, knowfng that tho latter have been suffering from a shortage of tnoso commodities. As a matter of fact there could not be any extensive exportation of woollen goods from the Dominion, there being none available for the purpose. Like tho rest of the world. New Zealand has been, and still is, short of blankets' and other woollen goods. In normal times moro are manufactured here than can be used, but owing to the demand for tweeds the looms havo been employed in makin" them instead of blankets. * Thos;o in the trade predict, however, that in sis 1 month*' time all the Dominion mills will' be producing ample supplies of blankets to I fill nil needs.
