INCIDENT AT A FIRE.
BULLET THROUGH WINDOW.
DISCOVERY BY THE POLICE.

Wednesday. ; j A remarkable incident, occurred during ! the fire which broke out in Church Street ': at an early hour this morning, and which j ; resulted in the destruction of several . shops. On the side of tho street opposite; to the fire a large plateglass window in a I shop owned by Mr. W. Oakes, and occu- I pied by Mr. C. Shalloon, draper, wad \ battered, and there was a distinct bullet i hole, in the remaining portion of the glass. ] I The heat from the fire was not considered ■ i to have been sufficient to break the win- i dow. and investigations were therefore made by the police. These resulted in the \ ! discovery of a revolver bullet, a man's cap, ! j and a glass bottle inside the broken win- ■ I (low. The owner of the rap, it is stated, l has been identified. Evidently the revolver was tired at shirt range, arid the bottle w.is used to enlarge the hole. In his ex- j citement the culprit apparently fell through ' the window into the shop, and forgot to ' never his cap and bottle when making his i escape. i
