TWO HOTELS. IN QUESTION.

THAMES. Wednesday.
The annual meeting of the Thames Licensing Bench was held to-day, Mr. Young, S.M., presiding. The police report in the majority of cases was favourable. Renewals were granted with the exception of the Kuaotunn Hotel, which was reported" to be in a bad condition generally, and afforded poor accommodation for travellers. The Bench decided to adjourn the application for a renewal until the quarterly meeting. In the meantime the owners undertook to do necessary repairs a? required. The Royal Mail Hotel, Cororaandel, was also reported on unfavourably as regards the condition of the premises and drainage, but a renewal waG granted to the present licensee and owner, subject- to his undertaking to carry out all repairs and improvements required by the police before the next quarterly meeting. An application was received from the owner of the Post) Office Accommodation House, Neveavflle, Mrs. Montgomery, for a new license in her own name,) as the I present licensee bad abandoned the premises, which were temporarily closed under the provisions of the War Regulations Act. This was adjourned to the nest quarterly meeting, pending inquiries a* to the 1 applicant's fitness for the position of licensee.
All the other renewals were granted, subject, in some cases, to certain improvement* being carried out by the owners.
