SOCIAL SERVICE FUNDS.
PRESBYTERIAN CAMPAIGN; The Auckland Presbyterian Social Ser- ' rice Association has been arranging for a Presbyterian peace thanksgiving campaign I throughout the province. It was originally I intended to carry out this campaign, with ! an object of raising £18,000, in March last, j but it was deemed advisable to postpone I it until nearer the signing of peace. It ', has now been decided to endeavour to': raise the required amount during the present month. The Social Service Associa- - tion, in conjunction with the Leslie I'ies- ' bytcrian Orphanage, hopes, by June 50, to ! have collected tin? sum of J JlB 000, li<e-' ; sixths of which is for the Social Service i Association for the erect.on oi a bov--' '. home, and the carrying mi of general ' social service work, and one-sixth for the ' i Leslie Presbyterian Orphanage for cjtni-, 1 sive additions that arc necessary. The : ' Social Service Association has now over I [ 60 children under its care, 56 of whom
aro located at the superintendents manse. at Ponsonbv, and the Leslie Orphanage has '»5 children. The Social Service .Wo-1 ] elation has purchased a property in Mount . I Smart Road, Onehunga. There are over' nine acres of heavy volcanic land, and ai ! substantial building and outbuildings. The j association is to take possession almost .immediately. and it is intended to utili.o ' I the present buildings at once t<» relieve tie ; ' pressure on Mr. J drey's manse, and to' I proceed at once with the erection of the! Ijoys' Home. The property will give ample' I playing grounds for the boy.-, and will i 'make it possible to keep FUlliii it poultry! 1 and cows for the requirements of the home.
