RAILWAY DEVELOPMENT.
SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAMME
AUCKLAND SUGGESTIONS.
A supplementary railway development programme is being prepared by Mr. K. H. Hiley, ex-general manager of the .New Zealand Railways, and will be ready for submission to Cabinet before Mr. Iliiey leaves for England. Discussing the matter yesterday, the Minister for Railways, the Hon." W. 11. llerries, stated that he had no particulars of the- riw scheme, which would be supplementary to the 1914 programme. For oil practical mirposes the, latter would become the 1919 programme, and the scheme now being prepared would liovo to go forward a few years. Mr. Horries said that in the 1914 scheme there was a suggestion that a lino should be run westward through the Auckland station to join the northern line, thus disposing of the bug tourney round by way of Newmarket. It was possible that in the supplementary programme' something definite, would bo heard of this line, which if carried out would be on trestles through the more thickly populated part of the city. 'Ihe Minister was unable to say whether this loop schema to the North would bo included in the latter programme.
