COST OF FREEZING WORKS.
POUT CHALMERS EQUIPMENT.
The question of erecting now freezing works at Port Chalmers, in place of the works recently closed, has been discussed by the Otago Harbour Board. A report by a sub-committee stated that on March 28 it was resolved to put the works in thorough up-to-date order to meet the requirements of the- port, but this decision wps based on the assumption that the cost would be from £10,000 to £11,000. However, the resident engineer estimate that to erect new works on present-day prices would cost in tho region of £15,000. It was explained that owing to the increased expenditure the committee was not prepared to go on without further consideration by tho board, especially as it was probable tho board would lose tho business of a largo client. After some discussion, the board decided to call for tenders for the proposed new works, with a view to further consideration when tho prospective cost was ascertained.
