ELEVEN CHARGES PREFERRED.

[BV TELEGRAPH. -OWN COUItESPONDENT.] ✓ RAETIHI. Tuesday. _ A man named Mauncc J. Walking on Smyihe. of Wellington, was brought up at the Police Court at Raetihi on eleven charges of false pretences or attempted false pretences. The. accused, it was alleged, represented himself as a Government agent and to having been sent out to assist farmers in compiling their income tax returns. To do this, it was said, he offered a book which was supposed to have a Government stamp of aproval on it. The price of the book was £3, and he is stated to have disposed of a number in that way. The accused was committed to the VVanganui Supreme Court, bail being allowed, himself in the substantial Bi'm of £500.
