BOY AWARDED DAMAGES.

INJURED BY MOTOR-CAR.

JURY'S VERDICT FOR £100.

[BY TELKCttAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. At the Supreme Court a claim was heard to-day for £600 damages against Harold H. Morris on account of injuries alleged to have been received by John MeCallum, aged five years, through being knocked down by the defendant's motor-car. The accident occurred on Mav 19, 1918, at the corner of fihuznee and Willis streets, and it was alleged the motor-car was negligently and unskilfully driven. The evidence for the plaintiff was to the effect that the defendant was travelling at from 20 to 25 miles per hour. The defence was a general denial of the allegations of negligence on the part of the defendant. The defendant stated that at the time of the accident the car's speed was 10 to 12 miles per hour. The jury, after a three-hours' retirement, announced that they were unable to agree. A majority, however, awarded the plaintiff £100 damages, and judgment was given for that amount.
