A complote. settlement was reached yeit?rday in the Auckland country grocers' dispute, which was considered by a Con- | ciliation Council, under the presidency uf the commissioner, Mr. T. Harlo Giles. ! Messto. J. H. Mori onsen and R. McKean represented the union, and Messrs. R. 11. I Harrison, D. B. Dillicar, and 0. Bryelt I the employers. The hours of work were i fixed in accordance. with tho Shops, and I Offices Act, and tho wages as incorporated 'in the Auckland Grocers' Award Were I agreed to, with tho proviso that an in- ' croagfl of these rates at, the next sitting of < tho Arbitration Court shall apply equally to the country districts. Employees receiving 10s a week are to be paid for overtime at 6d an hour, and those receiving over 10s a week. 9d an hour. Wages are to bo paid weekly. A special clause provides that, tho award shall not apply , to clerks or cash boys or other persons I employed in the office work of the eni- ( ployer, and not engaged in the work of I the shop, nor to ono female cmployc-o in ( any one shop employed substantially in i departments other than grocery and 'provisions. The award, tho term of which is from June 1, 1919, to May 31, 1921, does' not apply to tho Gisborno judicial district. On the motion of Messrs-. Harrison and McKean, a hearty vote of thanks was ! accorded tho commissioner for the able manner in which he had conducted the proceedings.
