MAY DAY RIOTING.
DISTURBANCES IN PARIS.
GREAT NUMBER WOUNDED.
BARRICADES ATTEMPTED.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Rc,rrL l" 30 p.m.), PARIS. May 1. Infantry and cavalry reinforced the gendarmerie to prevent the May Day demonstrators marching on the Place de la Concorde. Firemen turned hoses on the crowd, who twice broke the military cordons.! Many heads were broken in baton charges. Another riotous crowd shouted, "Down with the Govern-1 ment." The riots continued during the' night. Demonstrators then attempted to barricade the streets, but ■ mounted men charged them. A I great number were wounded, including M. Cachin, a member of the Clumber of Deputies, and editor of La Humanite, and a municipal councillor. Shots fired by the mob wounded three policemen.
NEW YORK FATALITIES.
! THREE PEOPLE KILLED, (Reed. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 1. i Soldiers and sailors attacked a | May Day Labour demonstration in Madison Square. Police reserves dispersed the crowds. Three people 1 were killed. At Cleveland I.W.W. | riots started when soldiers seized I the Red Flag.
PROCESSIONS IN ENGLAND.
WORK STOPPED IN DUBLIN. A. «nd N.Z. LONDON. May 1.
Many May Day Labour processions were held in London and the provinces. There was a complete stoppage of work in Dublin. Except Government and municipal services and railways, industry in France was at a standstill for the day.
