THE JOURNAL OF SCIENCE.
The March number of the New Zealand Journal of Science is devoted principally to technical papers, several of which dial with various problems of electrical engineering. Professor Benson, of the University of Otago, .contributes a review of recent conclusions regarding the ago of the earth, a question upon which scientists have not yet approached agreement, estimates based upon the rate of transformation of uranium into helium and lead, ranging up to 1400 million years. An .dlied subject, the origin of now stars, is discussed in an examination of the " collision" theory. The Mist of a series of articles on weather forecasting' in New Zealand is contributed by Mr. B. V. Pembertou. Tho Departmental reports include a review by Mr. P. G. Morgan of the Dominion s resources of talc, manganese ore, clay and fuller's earth, and oil shal«, with explanations of the commercial valoo of these minerals,
