HINTS FOR THE HOUSEWIFE.
■ So many women are doing their own Work for the first time in their lives that the following hints may prove helpful:— If you invert the pan for your drop cookies and bake them on the bottom of the pan they are less likely to burn, and it is easier to remove them when cooked. Use a new paint-brush, well sterilised, for greasing cake-p.ins. Keep a piece of oilcloth, 20 by 20, on hand to use instead of a bread-board. It is easily wiped clean, can be roiled up and put in the table drawer, and eaves the trouble of scrubbing and drying the bread board. . Keep - beside the kitchen sink a small bottle' containing thirds lemon-juice, one-third alcohol, to remove stains from the hands, particularly those made in peeling potatoes. Also have a bottle of glycerine and , ro?e water to use after washing dishes; it k'eps the hands soft and white in spite of the hardest work. If you are occupied with other work and do not wish to forget something that is cooking, set the alarm clock for the time when you think it will be cooked. Mu'.-h food will thus be saved from burning.
