QUARANTINE MEASURES.
SUGGESTION TO MINISTER.
VISIT TO AUCKLAND URGED.
The following telegram in reference to the Niagara xas forwarded by the Mayor to the Minister for Public Health last evening :—'' I understand that fresh cast occurred again to-day and that only the New Zealand passengers have been removed, leaving still a large number of people on this infected vessel. Further, it is reported that the Port Stephen has been directed to Auckland instead of Gisborae, with influenza on board, which will further accentuate the position. I suggest to you, in view of the inadequacy of accommodation, that it is advisable for you to coma north at once to deal with the position bv the immediate provision of 'adequate Quarantine arrangements, both for present and prospective needs."

MINISTERS' REPLY TO WORKERS.
A telegram with reference to the efforts being taken, by the Public Health DepartI ment to combat the sickness among the i passengers and crew has been received by the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union from the Hon, G. W. Russell, as follows: " Every possible precaution is being taken against the reintroduction of influenza. Both passengers and crew so far as accommodation will permit, are ordered to be transferred to Motuihi Island for quarantine. Members of tbe crew remaining on the vessel are to be given special accommodation in order that danger may be minimised. Through passenger? are required to visit Motuihi Island daily, returning to the ship for only the evening meal and to sleep. Socoial investigation ir, to be made as to whether the accommodation for the crew is adequate, in view of the danger arising from overcrowding. Under the circumstances I trust you will accept my assurance that the Public Health Department is taking every- possible precaution to minimise any danger of a recrudescence of the epidemic."

ABOUT 180 BOOKINGS.
The delay which has been brought about in the departure of the Niagara for Vancouver has not only inconvenienced passengers who boarded' the vessel at Sydney, but intending travellers from the Dominion have also been affected. Nc fewer than 180 people had booked passages from New Zealand, and the majcrity of these had concentrated at Auckland prior to the arrival of the vessel on Tuesday last.
