FOUR VICTORIA CROSS MEN.
BUCKINGHAM PALACE CEREMONY. ! [from our own correspondent.] JLONDON, Fob. 27. J, An investiture held by His Majesty the 1 . King in the ballroom at Buckingham 1 , Palace was of special interest to New. i Zealand, as no fewer than four New Ze&- J' land men received the Victoria Cross. One I of them, 2nd Lieut. Reginald Jndson, l ( Auckland Reciment, also received the!. D.C.M. and the M.M. The other V.C. ;. recipients were:—!2nd Lieut. John Grant, ' J Wellington Regiment; 2nd Lieut, Harry | , Laurent, N.Z. Rifle Brigade; and Private James Crichton, Auckland Regiment. Tho Albert Medal was presented by the j King to Flight-Sergt. Thomas Nicoll, .; R.A.F. (son of Mr. I. Nicoll, of Eden-1 dale), for an act- of gallantry in France on February 26, 1918, when two bombs i, exploded under an aeroplane, burning the machine entirely and causing considerable loss of life. Owing to the explosion a phosphorus bomb attached to another machine standing near to it was ignited. Sergeant Nicoll, with great presence of mind, and regardless of the danger to himself, unhooked the burning bomb and I carried it to a place of safety. By his J prompt action Sergeant Nicoll, whose • hands were badly burned, saved the' second machine and prevented further I serious damage and loss of life which would probably have been caused.
