RECORD OAT YIELD. THE CANTERBURY CROPS. [HI 05XEGHAPH.--OWN cobbesponbest.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. In oats it is "the early bird" who has caucht tho worm this year- Those who threshed out. 80- bushels per aero and 'got the grain on trucks at 5s or Es 2d per bushel and there are some—can afford to smile now that the market has come- crash-' ing down. Without probing deeper, the splendid general yield must bo in a treasure responsible s for tho collapse of th« market. From all parts of this island come reports of high yields and some really phonomenol figures are given. So far the championship • coos to South Canterbury, whore, at Makikihi. a 10-acro paddock of Ruokura oats is reported to have returned I 161} bushels per aero. Bearing in mind that 80 bushels is often a noteworthy yield, ■ tho appearance of the Makikihi crop takes some imagining. Other remarkable yields are 131 bushes per acre of 11 acres, at Waimate, and 120 bushels from a paddock on Kaiapoi Island, Getting into larger areas another Waimato tally should be hard to beat, namely, 108 bushels per acre over 100 acres. Tho variety in this last instance is not mentioned. Tho Ruakura record is doubly gratifying as it is from a South Island sowing of a North Island-produced oat. , MANAWATU STOCK SALES. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at Palmerstou North, on March 13, they had a good yarding of both sheep and cattle. There was poor inquiry for ewes, but good lambs sold well at late rates. Prices 'for aU classes of cattle were easier right through ihe sale. They quota:— Fat ewes, 23a lOd to 24a 9d; four and five yetr owes 19s to 21s 7d; two-tooth ewes, 235; two-tooth wethers, 26s 4d; rape lambs, w.f., lis to 12s 2d: rape lambs, b.f., 12s, 14s 3d. to 14s 4d;~ small lambs, 4s to 5s 2d; Southdown rams, £5 8s; potter rams, 10s Id, 15s, to 235. Cattle: Fat cows, £9 5s to £9 15s, £10 7s. to £10 13s; forward cows. £4, £5 17s. £6 10s, to £7 2s; cows, in milk, to £6 ss: 20-months steers to £4 7s; 18months heifers to £4; bulls, £6 to £8 ss. ' PROPERTY SALES. Messrs. Walker and Company, Queen St root, report that they held a clearance sale last week, at-.Greenwood's Comer, Epsom, on account of Mr. C.
