RECORD OAT YIELD. THE CANTERBURY CROPS. [HI 05XEGHAPH.--OWN cobbesponbest.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. In oats it is "the early bird" who has caucht tho worm this year- Those who threshed out. 80- bushels per aero and 'got the grain on trucks at 5s or Es 2d per bushel and there are some—can afford to smile now that the market has come- crash-' ing down. Without probing deeper, the splendid general yield must bo in a treasure responsible s for tho collapse of th« market. From all parts of this island come reports of high yields and some really phonomenol figures are given. So far the championship • coos to South Canterbury, whore, at Makikihi. a 10-acro paddock of Ruokura oats is reported to have returned I 161} bushels per aero. Bearing in mind that 80 bushels is often a noteworthy yield, ■ tho appearance of the Makikihi crop takes some imagining. Other remarkable yields are 131 bushes per acre of 11 acres, at Waimate, and 120 bushels from a paddock on Kaiapoi Island, Getting into larger areas another Waimato tally should be hard to beat, namely, 108 bushels per acre over 100 acres. Tho variety in this last instance is not mentioned. Tho Ruakura record is doubly gratifying as it is from a South Island sowing of a North Island-produced oat. , MANAWATU STOCK SALES. Messrs.
