ALLIES' WAR LEADERS.
i CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES. REPLIES TO VETERANS. Replies to congratulatory messages from the Auckland King's Empire Veterans to Marshal Foch and to Sir Douglas Haig, eulogising the brilliant strategy each displayed in bringing the war to such a successful conclusion, and wishing each a long and happy life, have recently been received by the socretary of the Veterans' Association, Captain J. Stichbury. The thanks of Marshal Foch, conveyed through M. C. Papier, head of the generalissimo's office, were couched in the following terms:—"You have been kind enough to express to Marshal Foch the congratulations of the King's Empire Veterans of Auckland. The marshal has been deeply touched by the feeling which has prompted this act. He wishes me to express to you, and to your association, his sincere thanks. Begging you to accept, sir, the expression of my highest esteem." Sir Douglas Haig replied as follows:— My heartiest thanks to you, your commanding officer and all officers and members of the King's Empire Veterans of Auckland for the very kindly expression of your congratulation. I greatly appreciate this generous tribute at the conclusion of hostilities from New Zealand, and the whole Empire, I am sure, can never adequately express what we owe to the splendid patriotism and fine fighting qualities displayed at all times during the war by the soldiers of New Zealand."
