Letters in support of the council's reso- | lution, passed on February 18, urging '. that the Municipal Corporations and Countien Act, of 1908, be amended, wjlh"'.' a view to compelling insurance companies !to contribute to the support of all firs . I brigades, were received from the Minister,; for Customs, the' Hon. A. M. Myers, and \!£ from Messrs. C. J- Parr and A/ Harris, VM.P.'s , 'f In reply to a request for ( an expression of opinion on the question of the-reuse- i sentation of local bodies in the procession '; from Quay Street to the Domain during .' the peace celebrations, the council recom- ' mended that rather than join tho procesj ,• sion at Karangabape Road, as had besn suggested, each" local body bo asked to provide its own conveyance and to join the procession at Quay Street. . Water rates were, reported to be overdue on several properties not occupied by the owners. It was stated that if the landlord would not pay the over rates the council would have to discontinue the tenant's service. The council could not, however, lose on the connections, and 1 it was decided to obtain legal opinion as to whether a tenant is allowed to deduct his water rate from the rent. " The splendid work being done by the council near Triangle Reserve and on tho waterfront," was' acknowledged in a resolution forwarded by the Devonport Traders' Association.The main district electors roll was signed by the Mayor and two councillors. The town clerk reported that no objections bad been, lodged.
