MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH.

THE KEEPING OF POULTRY.

NEW BY-LAWS APPROVED.

The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. C. Hudeon, presided.

j Several new by-laws appertaining to tho : keeping of poultry in the borough were adopted. The new regulations provide that no person shall keep poultry of any kind without first obtaining a license, to cost a shilling issued on the certificate of the sanitary inspector. The Mayor gave notice of & special meeting for their confirmation, to no held on March 24. In reply to a request from the council that a system of fire-signals be employed in order that residents might know in which quarter the outbreak had occurred, the captain of the Fire Brigade- stated that a system had been tried some years ago. and had been found impracticable. Refusal of the offer made by Mount Eden for the lighting of the borough by electricity was made by the City Council The letter notifying the refusal contained no explanation. A notification from the Department of Agriculture that if the council desired gorseto be dealt with it must declare it * noxious weed, was referred to the Streets Committee for report The question of the desirability of planting the northern side of Balmoral Road with trees, advocated by Mr. H. H. Seabrook, was referred to the Streets Committee.

Permission was granted to the Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club and to the Mount Eden school to hold carnivals in the baths on March 13 and 22 respectively. The list of transfers of properties from August 27 last contained tho names of 267 persons. The matter of dealing with grass fires on vacant' sections was referred to the Streets Committee.
