IMPERIAL WOOL PURCHASE
NECESSITY NOW, PAST.
REPLY TO SOUTH AFRICA.
(Received 7.30 p.m.)
A. and N.Z.-Routor CAPETOWN, Dec 17.
In connection with the negotiations for the purchase of the South African wool clip, the Imperial Government states that tho Army Council is no louger interested in securing wool. It- is prepared, however, to take 150,000 bales as the result of a strong desiro to place South Africa in an equally favourable position with the other Dominions.
If this offer is not acceptable the Imperial Government would prefer to withdraw its negotiations, whicfr" are now quite superfluous from the military standpoint.
