ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
EARLIER GODWIT SEASON. The monthly mooting of the council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was held last night, Mr. 0. A. Whitney presiding, It. was decided to ask the Under-Secre* tary for Internal Affairs to' fix the opening of the godwit shooting season for 1 January 1. Tho chairman explained that as so many of the birds had not migrated ' from the Dominion last season there could 1 ( bo no harm in opening the coming season 'earlier than usual. The Tauranga and Taranaki societies asked for quotations for the supply of ' pheasants. It was decided to ouote 35s a brace abroad, with a i discount of 10 per cent, for orders over" £50, delivery to bo taken immediately the birds aro ready. Should '' there be any delay in taking delivery, the ' cost of keeping the birds is to he added. It was resolved to ask the Government ' to place fish ladders at all dams erected' in connection with the hydro-electric power schemes to be undertaken as tho result of the passing of the Hydro-electric Power Boards Act. It was. also decided to ask the Government to protect the entrances to sluices nt power works to prevent the loss of fish. i The council resolved to nsk the Government to supply 500.000 rainbow trout fry next sesason. Members expressed the , opinion that if the society's funds would allow it. this number should be increased to 1,000,000.
